The other night it was really quiet when I shut down my tractor after brush hogging my field. For the first time I noticed that the mid PTO was spinning. Is this normal? Should the front and rear PTOs operate independently of each other or as one turns, so does the other? In preparation for my upcoming move I packed or lost the owners manual; another is on the way but I have nothing to consult right now.

Not sure about the 7510, but on my 7800, they are controlled independantly. They are controlled by seperate gear engagement levers. Are you sure the Mid PTO lever wasn't engaged.
By the way, when you dis-engage the clutch, they should both stop spinning, unless you clutch was assembled backwards. ....

On my tractor there is an empty slot next to the lever that engages the PTO -- maybe it was an option to have the PTOs work independently? Pushing in the clutch does disengage the PTO.

If you have the PTO, the lever to engage and disengage isn't an option. If you have a mid-pto or rear-pto, without an engagement lever, something's wrong. It is a safety concern to not be able to dis-engae a pto.
Did I understand what you said properly? You have not engagement lever on a 7510. ....

There is a lever to engage/dis-engage the PTO. To use the brush hog, I pull the lever toward the rear of the tractor. I assumed that pushing it forward would engage the mid-PTO, but now am not sure. Also, there is a second, empty, slot right next to the PTO engagement lever -- this is where I assume some optional "thing" goes. I'm at work now but will head out to the tractor and look at things again...

Take another look at it. I don't have a 7510, but looked at several 2410's when I was hunting last year. From what I remember, they had seperate engagement levers for the mid and rear pto's. Maybe someone with a 7510 can help. Having both running or none doesn't sound right. My 7800 has seperate engagement levers. ....

Your 7510 should be the same as my 7610. Pull back, and the rear engages at 540. Push forward, and the rear engages to 960 and the mid to 2500 (at the same time). What would someone do if they had a midmount mower and some other rear implement attached at the same time? Doesn't make much sense, but then again, I don't use the mid PTO. ....

So I feel kind of stupid...I think what happened is that when I dis-engaged the rear PTO I pushed the lever a little too far forward and kicked on the mid PTO. I went out to the tractor and engaged the rear PTO then looked underneath and saw the mid PTO was not engaged.

I don't know the differences between the older and newer B-series models, but on a BX one lever selects which PTO will run (rear-540RPM OR mid-2200RPM OR BOTH rear-540 AND mid-2200). Another lever actually engages or disengages whichever PTO(s) have been selected. ....
